#5 Don't Focus Only On Your Strentgh

This might be slightly controversial topic but I often get asked by founders or students if they should focus on only on their strength or they need to become what society calls "super man/girl" great at everything. And the answer depends on your chosen journey.

If you chose to be an entrepreneur or a founder then by default you have decided that you will have to spend time doing things you are not particularly good at. That's before you can afford to hire people to complement your strengths and relieve you from the burden.

I wan't to be clear - I'm not saying you need to spend time becoming great accountant if you're building a design studio or a SaaS company but you must spend time learning basics to understand it and be able to do some of it, like read the statements. Same goes for communication, delegating, sales and marketing, and list goes on.

Most of us default to our strengths instead of focusing on our weaknesses because it's often positioned as one or the other. But outside of motivational gurus world life is not black'n'white. And a lot of times you don't even know what your strengths are until you explore more areas.

Real life and business requires you to understand fundamentals of many disciplines otherwise your business, your employees, your clients and your future self suffer. This is true with founders, artists and creators alike.

It’s easier to do more of what you’re good at than face what’s not “feeling so hot”. But a blind spots, like no idea how cash-flow works or no ability to promote your work or close a deal, is a problem for your growth and success so you better learn it and practice.

Again, you don't have to be great at everything but you should understand how that part of the business works and you should be able to do it until someone better joins you.

What do you think about it? Do you agree?
