#4 Communities Connected by Social Network Are Great Idea
December 2, 2024•322 words
I think the idea of a bunch of communities for different interests is a genius long-term proposition.
Especially for people like me. People who like to switch and mix topics during their day by posting and discussing topics in different bubbles. It's well-known fact that algos on traditional web2 socials don't like that at all.
But I feel it's pretty normal that if an account is run by a normal human who's looking for connection, learning, or fun and not by a bot or some influencer who does it for a living then you can't stick to a single topic. Sometimes you wanna talk about business, sometimes about parenting, sometimes about nothing just your feeling of being down and sometimes you want a book or movie recommendation.
That's why traditional socials never cut it and will not cut it in the future for the majority of the thinking population.
Why do I say "thinking population"? Because, I realize there's a part of the population who's not looking for anything else than passive entertainment and they can be served perfectly well by traditional web2 socials.
But for the rest of us - Farcaster will win in the long run. What Farcaster did recently is that they've turned channels from kind of tag-feeds into actual closed communities. So posts from a community/channel are not visible in the main app feed. Only people who are part of the community or following the caster who posted will see the post. And inside the community, all posts are chronologically ordered.
I believe that's the future. It will just take time to get there because it's hard for new people to onboard into these closed or semi-closed communities and also hard to even find them.
But we just need to grow the Farcaster garden more and it will all fall into place.
How about you - are you on Farcaster? Do you agree?
Let me know on Farcaster or Twitter/X or LinkedIn!
Till tomorrow! 🤠
