#16 Are We Pure Evil In Crypto?
January 7, 2025•225 words
I'm wondering why we have so much bad and extractive behavior in Web3. No, really. I was reflecting on this during the holidays as I was talking with friends living in totally different bubbles. And when you look at Web3 from the outside, the community behaviour we have here is pure evil and extraction.
We claim we want to solve the world's problems but it seems we're really just putting them onchain.
There's very little talk about the meaning of all things crypto and sooo much of Rolex flexing and get-rich-quick talk. I mean, it seems to me impossible that most people in crypto would not be searching and aiming for a higher meaning of their existence and their projects, yet it's not what becomes visible on CT or other socials.
To be fair, there are probably some exceptions like Farcaster or individual project discords but the problem is - these places with not-extractive vibes are not doing well. They're not among the successes of the current crypto era and hence they don't become beacons we can point to for the combination of meaningful & successful.
Feel free to say I'm wrong and I'm missing something or feel free to share a list of people searching for meaning in everyday crypto lives.
Let me know on Farcaster! Or find me on Twitter/X or LinkedIn!
Till tomorrow! 🤠
