#7 Are You In Push or Pull Marketing?

One of the best advice I've got over the years was - when promoting or selling your thing always try to think more about possible pull creation than push marketing.

But most of the time when anyone (me included) starts to think about possible ways of promoting (aka selling) something to their target audience - they will think about push strategies.

In crypto it's mostly

-> let's do airdrop, let's give people tokens, let's sell them   NFTs, let's create elaborate quests to have them grind for NFT   or points (that are usually useless - just sayin), etc.

In tech generally the discussion almost always starts

-> let's do SEO and content marketing, let's buy ads, let's work   with KOLs, etc.

I don't want to say traditional ways don't work, I just know (and you know that too) that it's a grind without real chance to stand out and create long term advantage. You see, someone will always churn out more articles or will have deeper pocket to buy more targeted ads.

Pull story has a great advantage that if people buy into it, it has the long term pull effect almost without the need for push marketing money.

Think about how Tesla reframed electric car issues from battery/distance to speed racing and being cool, or how Base reframed L2 message from transactions and fees to “let’s make better business”.

What I'm trying to say is that pull comes from the right story for the right target audience and that's where you should start your thinking and marketing journey.

Btw: marketing is a wrong word for what most projects and companies need, they all need distribution which is way more than just marketing and I talk about it a lot in BuildBetter.

What do you think? - How is your push marketing going?
